Annual Evidence Update: Antenatal and Pregnancy Care

Annual Evidence Update on Antenatal and Pregnancy Care
(NHS Evidence - women's health)
This Annual Evidence Update (AEU) aims to provide clinicians with the most up-to-date knowledge on the antenatal and pregnancy care offered to women. The update brings together the results of a comprehensive literature search for new research published since July 2008. The 2009 AEU builds on the AEU from last year and adds to this any new evidence identified from the up-to-date literature search. Topics include:

* information needs
* common pregnancy problems
* provision of antenatal care
* antenatal ultrasound
* fetal heart rate monitoring.

We know that it is very difficult for busy clinicians to keep up-to-date with the huge volume of literature that is published each year and so NHS Evidence - women's health does this for you so that you don't have to!

Annual Update on Hepatitis B/C

Annual Evidence Update on Hepatitis B/C

The Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Specialist Collection is launching its third Annual Evidence Update on Hepatitis B and C on Monday 7 September to coincide with the British Association for the Study of the Liver Annual Meeting.

The Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Project Team has carried out a systematic literature search on Hepatitis B and C to identify all high level evidence published since the date of the last AEU in 2008, including guidelines, systematic reviews, health technology assessments and economic evaluations. Leading experts from around the UK have read and appraised these for their validity and relevance to the busy clinician. A list of the papers deemed worthy of inclusion, along with expert commentaries by our reviewers, will be freely available on the site at www.library.nhs.uk/gastroliver. This year we have also begun to identify uncertainties in research to contribute to the DUETs project (see www.library.nhs.uk/duets for more details).

We welcome feedback about the Update - please contact us with any comments on gastroliver@medsch.ucl.ac.uk.

Sense about Science

Website of the week:
http://www.senseaboutscience.org.uk/index.php
From the home page:
Sense About Science is an independent charitable trust. We respond to the misrepresentation of science and scientific evidence on issues that matter to society, from scares about plastic bottles, fluoride and the MMR vaccine to controversies about genetic modification, stem cell research and radiation. We work with scientists and civic groups to promote evidence and scientific reasoning in public discussion.

Our recent and current priorities include alternative medicine, MRI, detox, radiation, health tests, the status of evidence in public health advice, an educational resource on peer review and the public language of science.

Digger Watch

Well, here is the final digger watch from the library windows before they are boarded up! Work continues apace, and it is amazing just how interesting it is to watch concrete dry (no really, it has been great to have ring-side seats to watch the progress of the building extension, although rather noisy at times).

Regular Library users at Maidstone can still use the libraries at Kent & Sussex and at Pembury during the closure of the Maidstone site. Out-of-Hours fob holders can use their fobs at these sites too.

Please see earlier posts for full details of how to use the services over the next 6 weeks.
