Resource of the Week: BNF

Each week the Trust Library Service will be promoting a different product available for all members of staff.

This week it is the 'BNF' which is a joint publication of the British Medical Association and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. The BNF aims to provide prescribers, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals with sound up-to-date information about the use of medicines.

It is also available to download for free for users or Android and iPhone smartphones via the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Your will need an Athens account to log-in. To register for Athens go to www.evidence.nhs.uk

This week it is Uptodate which is available to help answer clinical questions. Uptodate is a clinical decision support tool used by more than 600,000 clinicans worldwide to access current, evidence-based information at the point of care and it includes more that 9,000 medical topics.

Resource of the week: BMJ Case Reports

Each week the Trust library service will be promoting a different product available for all members of staff.
This week it is 'BMJ CASE REPORTS' which is an online community that enables junior doctors to take their first steps in having their case reports and research published. It also contains over 1,500 articles which have been peer reviewed.
A local GP trainee submitted a case report using this service and so far there have been over 700 downloads.

Each week the Trust Library service will be promoting a different product available for all members of staff. This week it is Google Scholar which you can search at http://www.scholar.google.com Google Scholar provides a basic way to broadly search for scholarly literature. You can search across many disciplines and sources: peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles. If the full-text is freely available, it will appear next to your search results. If you need to do a more advanced search, don't forget about the NHS databases, including Medline and Embase, available at http://www.evidence.nhs.uk (Athens account required). Any full-text journals which the NHS has paid for will appear in these databases.

The staffed opening hours at the Trust Library & Knowledge Services are 

changing. From May 6th they will be as follows:

Maidstone Hospital (Academic Centre Level 1):

Monday-Friday: 09:00-17:00

Tunbridge Wells Hospital (Education and Training Centre Level -2):

Monday-Friday 8.30-17:00

New e-journal titles for 2013 include Arthritis and Rheumatism, Journal of Neonatal Nursing and the much requested Red and Green Journals (Radiation, Oncology, Biology & Physics and Radiotherapy and Oncology).

Fond Goodbyes

This week we say a final farewell to Jane Beeley, who retired last year but has been working with us on the bank for the past six months, winding down. We also say goodbye to David Copsey, Head of Library and Knowledge Services, who retires on 31st March. They will both be missed and we wish them well.

Each week the Trust library service will be promoting a different product available for all members of staff.

This week is Uptodate which is available to help answer clinical questions.  Uptodate is a clinical decision support tool used by more than 600,000 clinicans worldwide to access current, evidence-based information at the point of care and it includes more that 9,000 medical topics.

Resource of the week: Map of Medicine

Each week the Trust library service will be promoting a different product available for all members of staff.
This week it is "Map of Medicine' which is available at: http://england.mapofmedicine.com and log in with NHS Athens to access.

It is a web-based visual representation of evidence-based patient care journeys covering the most common and important conditions and co-morbidities. The Map of Medicine is an evidence-based benchmark for clinical processes that supports the configuration of services, local commissioning and clinical practice across care settings.
