From ClinicalSkills.net:
Our new series on Pressure Ulcers continues with the
publication of the second part, which is on “Repositioning and early
mobilisation”. Again demonstrated by Claire Walker, Lecturer at the University
of Liverpool, this part covers:
·
The SSKIN mnemonic, to help recall of the ways to aid prevention of
pressure ulcers
·
Emphasis on the need to reposition patients frequently
·
The need to obtain appropriate equipment to help reposition patients
·
Avoidance of postures that create shear
·
The importance of mobilising patients but also limiting sitting time
·
Documentation of the repositioning regime
·
Justifying the patient’s needs for specialised support surfaces
·
The use of specialised equipment to redistribute pressure, and the need
to inspect this regularly
·
Emphasis on the need for appropriate foot care
This second part of the Pressure Ulcers series accompanies
Part 1, which is on “Risk assessment, skin assessment and care” and Part 3,
which is on “Treatment of pressure ulcers”. Part 3 will be published next week.
To find this new procedure, you just need to put the term
“pressure ulcers” into the Search field on the Procedures page, or
alternatively, go to either the Adults or the Primary Care sections, and visit
either the Wound Care or the Wound Care in Primary Care category.
