Updated pressure ulcer procedure on ClinicalSkills.net!

From ClinicalSkills.net:

This week, we’re excited to announce that Part 1 of our new series on Pressure Ulcers is now available!

This highly detailed and informative series has been demonstrated for us by Claire Walker, Lecturer at the University of Liverpool. Part 1 is on “Risk assessment, skin assessment and care” and it covers:

·      Categories of patients who must have an assessment of pressure ulcer risk, according to NICE guidelines
·      How to carry out skin inspection, including the need to check blanching and presence of erythema
·      Strategies to avoid development of moisture lesions
·      Assessment of pressure ulcers and use of a grading tool
·      Emphasis on the need for continued assessment, and documentation of assessment

Part 2 of this series is on “Repositioning and early mobilisation”, and Part 3 is on “Treatment of pressure ulcers”. Parts 2 and 3 will be published over the next two weeks.

You’ll find the Pressure Ulcers series in both the Adults and the Primary Care sections, in the categories, Wound Care and Wound Care in Primary Care respectively. Alternatively, just put the relevant key word in the Search field on the Procedures page.

This week, we also have some updates for you. The following procedures have been reviewed by the author and updated:

·      Recording temperature: Disposable thermometers
·      Recording temperature: Tympanic thermometers
·      Recording temperature: Electronic thermometers

The main change has been updated references.

Go to the Library resources page on the MTW intranet to access this new procedure on ClinicalSkills.net (no log in required) or access off-site at www.clinicalskills.net with an OpenAthens account.

Resource of the Month: Trip database

Each month the Trust Library service will be promoting a different product available for all members of staff.

This month it is the turn of Trip database! (www.tripdatabase.com) Trip is a clinical search engine designed to allow users to quickly and easily find and use high-quality research evidence to support their practice and/or care. Try it out at www.tripdatabase.com, no log in required from an NHS net PC! However you can register for an account to access MTW's full-text links from Trip, to save searches and to receive emails in your research area.

As well as research evidence, Trip also allows clinicians to search across other content types including images, videos, patient information leaflets, educational courses and news.

Read more about Trip and levels of evidence on their blog: https://blog.tripdatabase.com/
