This week it is the 'BNF' which is a joint publication of the British Medical Association and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. The BNF aims to provide prescribers, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals with sound up-to-date information about the use of medicines.
It is also available to download for free for users or Android and iPhone smartphones via the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Your will need an Athens account to log-in. To register for Athens go to www.evidence.nhs.uk

This week it is 'BMJ CASE REPORTS' which is an online community that enables junior doctors to take their first steps in having their case reports and research published. It also contains over 1,500 articles which have been peer reviewed.
A local GP trainee submitted a case report using this service and so far there have been over 700 downloads.

Google Scholar provides a basic way to broadly search for scholarly literature. You can search across many disciplines and sources: peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles. If the full-text is freely available, it will appear next to your search results.
If you need to do a more advanced search, don't forget about the NHS databases, including Medline and Embase, available at http://www.evidence.nhs.uk (Athens account required). Any full-text journals which the NHS has paid for will appear in these databases.

Most e-journals require an NHS Athens account to access and all members of NHS staff are entitled to an Athens account. New e-journal titles for 2013 include Arthritis and Rheumatism, Journal of Neonatal Nursing and the much requested Red and Green Journals (Radiation, Oncology, Biology & Physics and Radiotherapy and Oncology).
